Christine and Elisabeth lovingly describe easy as knit as a "digital grandma" that guides you smoothly through your knitting adventures. ๐Ÿ‘ต๐Ÿป๐Ÿฅข

With over 215,000 followers on Instagram, easy as knit has built a tight-knit community of yarn lovers, and their beginner-friendly patterns are adored for their cozy, down-to-earth vibe.

In this blog post, you'll get to know Elisabeth and Christine a bit better and peek into their world with easy as knit. ๐ŸŒŸ We've tossed them 8 questions, and you can check out their answers right here! ๐Ÿ‘‡

1. How would you describe easy as knit?

"When we first started, we joked that easy as knit is like a digital grandma teaching you how to knit. And honestly, that's exactly what easy as knit is today! Anyone who's keen to learn can pick up knitting with our beginner-friendly patterns and step-by-step video guides.

Our little universe offers various levels of difficulty, so you can keep sharpening your skills at your own pace. You'll continue your knitting journey in a fun way and at a comfy, manageable speedโ€”with us holding your hand every stitch of the way!โ€

2. Who is easy as knit?

"That's usโ€”Christine and Elisabeth! Plus, we have a small team of talented helpers who assist with everything from graphic design and translations to content creation, communication, andโ€”most importantlyโ€”extra knitting hands!

We met at university back in 2017 during an elective course and became friends. Christine is from Southern Jutland and holds a master's in Information Science, while Elisabeth is Norwegian with a master's in Culture, Communication, and Globalization. One of us is extroverted and the other is introverted, but even though our personalities differ, we think surprisingly alike. This dynamic is a real strength for us at easy as knit, where we complement each other, and our shared values and mindset make collaborating both easy and enjoyable."

3. What inspired you to start easy as knit?

"When Christine first started knitting, she needed quite a bit of help from Elisabeth. That made us realizeโ€”not everyone has a knitting buddy to turn to when they're starting out! It can be tough for many people to dive in and experience all the joy that knitting brings.

Traditional knitting patterns are often packed with abbreviations, technical terms, and advanced techniques that can make a newbie's head spin. It's easy to hit a snag and feel discouraged.

That challenge inspired us to create a digital knitting universe filled with beginner-friendly patterns, handy tips, and detailed videosโ€”all designed to help you jump into knitting smoothly, no matter your experience level."

4. What does it look like when you develop new patterns?

"Our design process varies a lot. Sometimes we create patterns based on personal knitting projects we originally made just for fun. Other times, our awesome followers inspire usโ€”they toss ideas our way and participate in Instagram polls, and their input helps us craft new designs.

Christine loves to work from her imagination, tweaking the pattern as she goes while the prototype takes shape. Elisabeth, on the other hand, prefers to have the entire concept and all the necessary calculations nailed down before she kicks off a new project. This blend of working styles gives us a wide range of designs and approaches, making our pattern collection that much more varied."

5. Which patterns are you especially proud of?

"Our biggest pride and joy are definitely our sock patterns! We spent loads of time and countless attempts crafting a sock-knitting method that's as beginner-friendly as possible. It's such an incredible feeling to see newbies mastering sock knitting with our patternsโ€”especially since socks aren't usually what you'd call beginner-friendly projects."

6. What's your favorite yarn from Hobbii?

"Even though it's super hard to pick just one favorite yarn, we'd have to say Friends Wool is our top pick. We're absolutely obsessed with the color paletteโ€”so many stunning shades! We're especially smitten with the bright, bold colors that fit our designs perfectly.

The yarn is also incredibly versatile and works like a charm with many of our patterns. We love wearing clothes knitted in classic wool yarn, and Friends Wool delivers exactly the quality and warmth we're after!"

7. Which knitting tools can't you live without?

"Our most indispensable tools? Definitely stitch markers and stitch holders or wires!

For the longest time, Christine thought she didn't need stitch holders. When she wanted to try on her sweater, she'd just slip the stitches off the needlesโ€”but that always ended up with dropped stitches needing a rescue mission afterward.

Elisabeth, on the other hand, believed she could easily remember where to make increases and didn't see the need for stitch markers. But that led to many frustrating mistakes. It was a total game-changer when she realized just how genius stitch markers really are!"

8. What are your top 3 tips for brand-new knitters?

โ€œ1 โ€“ Swatch it, don't skip it. It might sound a tad boring, but knitting a gauge swatch is incredibly important! Even though it's tempting to skip ahead and jump right into your project, making a swatch from the get-go saves you from many mistakes and wasted time later on.

2 โ€“ Wash with care, and avoid the dryer. Be super careful when washing your knitsโ€”and whatever you do, keep them out of the dryer! If you're not used to washing knitted items, know that they're pretty delicate. It's always a bummer when something you've spent hours creating gets ruined in the laundry.

3 โ€“ Perfection isn't the goal. As a beginner, you're going to make mistakes, and most small errorsโ€”like an extra centimeter or a single extra stitchโ€”rarely matter in the big picture. Remember to enjoy the process and not focus so much on achieving a perfect result!"
